ABOUT

GIS provides a powerful set of tools to analyse the sustainability of spatial patterns of human activities, allowing us to interrogate the social, environmental and economic implications of our existing spatial infrastructure, our current activities and future plans.

Working with local authorities in Scotland, we deploy GIS analysis to assess current spatio-temporal patterns of public access to key services, and the extent to which new investments or policy interventions can be smartly and spatially targeted to provide better public outcomes, in terms of health, wellbeing, low carbon and affordability.

This on-line GIS displays some of the 20 Minute neighbourhoods exploratory data analysis we have carried out in the city of Edinburgh in the first half of 2021. This website serves to illustrate what spatial analysis can look like on a granular level, with the key spatial data sets available. Our thinking and analysis evolved thanks to discussions with and feedback from a range of stakeholders, including staff from different sections within the City of Edinburgh Council. This project was supported by the Scottish Funding Council and the DDI Data Platforms Innovation Programme. We gratefully acknowledge these valuable inputs and funding, but responsibility for this website is ours alone and the contents do not necessarily reflect the views, values or priorities of anyone else.
